static route pointing to the interface VS next-hop IP address?

What is the difference between static route pointing to the interface instead next-hop IP address?

It has to do with how the layer 2 resolution works.  When the route points to the interface, layer 2 resolution is performed towards the final destination, not the intermediary next hop.  In certain multi-access designs this can be problematic.
