Atomic configuration is a fail-safe feature for NetScreen FW/VPN devices configured in ScreenOS 5.0. NSM ensures a current valid configuration is not overwritten by a flawed configuration in flash memory.
The atomic configuration mode is always on.
The NSM atomic configuration feature dictates that a configuration update on the device is either executed completely and without errors or is not performed at all. When this occurs, the device will reboot in its previous configuration, and all changes will be discarded.
The user will be notified of the update failure in the NSM GUI, and the last CLI command successfully sent to the device will be displayed in the job result screen. Users can then use the Device Monitor to determine if and when the device re-establishes communication with the NSM server, or determine whether the last command would have caused the communication to be halted.
